For this project, I would like you to continue to consciously review the Elements and Principles of art through an artwork, while bringing in concept and a message.
Project:
Consider how the Elements and Principles can be used deliberately, but in a sophisticated, purposeful, holistic way. Consider the AP rubric and how they look at the use of the Elements and Principles. Consider too, the examples of successful AP art that we have looked at in class and how they use the Elements and Principles.
Create a piece that considers the Elements and Principles in a purposeful way to demonstrate the theme: Order | Disorder. Consider what does Order and/or disorder looks like and how can the Elements and Principles be used to demonstrate it? Consider your composition thoughtfully and be purposeful in your choices of placement, material, media and cropping. What happens if you shift it half an inch to the left?
Create a piece that shows what order and/or disorder looks like and means to you. Is it something that reflects your life? Other’s lives around you? Is it abstract? Representational? What Elements and Principles reflect it well? How can you evoke that feeling of order and/or disorder in your work? How does order and/or disorder break down our perspective and what we see? Does it still need to have structure to be successful?

Deadlines/Assignments
Step 1 - Watch the An-My Le, Julie Mehretu and Judy Pfaff segments on Art21 - see below. Take notes about how the above Essential Questions relate to their work. How can they and their work relate to your work? Browse through some of the other artists (artwork and video) listed below. Be ready to discuss on Monday, February 4
Step 2 - Please choose one artwork from one of the artists to present to the group on Monday. It could be something on the website that I provided or something you found on your own. When you present it, I want to hear an analysis of the work (what you think the artist is trying to say and what makes you think that from the artwork) and how you think it ties in with the idea(s) of order and/or disorder. Due Monday, February 4
Step 3 - Complete a sketchbook page that visualizes your response to one of the prompts below. This response should be a mini-composition and a visual exploration of the ideas that the prompt brings to mind. It can/should include experimentation with composition, technique and/or media. The end results do not have to be a polished artwork but should be a finished thought executed in visual form. Other than that - there is not a wrong answer.
Step 4 - Sketch/think/research/explore/experiment to develop your idea/plan. Create a detailed plan to share. We will conference about your plan/idea on Monday: due Monday, February 4
Step 5 - Chaos completed project: Due TBD

Essential Questions:
- What are the elements and principles of art?
- What things do artists do in their artworks and composition to make it visually and conceptually interesting?
- What is order? What is disorder? What does it look like? What does it feel like?
- Can disorder be contained or structured? Can order be wild and free?
- How does order or disorder break down our perspective and what we see?
Objectives:
- Use the elements and principles in an innovative, creative, dynamic way to express a theme/idea
- Create a consciousness of your composition
- Expand/develop technical skills
Expectations of Project
- Address the essential questions
- Use the Elements and Principles to develop a stronger composition and meaning
- Meet the AP and KWHS Expectations of quality work (see rubric)
- During this process, keep thinking about the choices you make. Why are you making these choices? What is guiding you in developing your composition?
- Media of your choice - use the media that best expresses your idea/message
