Storytelling Project
In this project, you will use your photographic skills to tell a story. In particular, a Shel Silverstein poem! You will use your photos to illustrate a mini story bookWe will then print these stories and share them with the LESA preschool program, sharing our talents with the wider community!

Requirements of your project:
- Create a 5-8 page book, plus cover that illustrates a chosen Shel Silverstein poem
- Photos must:
- Illustrate the text on the page. This could be done abstractly or representationally
- Demonstrate an element of art or principle of art of your choice. Must be predefined! Consider what elements or principles will help communicate your message best!
- Demonstrate slow shutter speed, fast shutter speed, small depth of field or large depth of field. Consider what exposure setting will help communicate your message best!
- Have proper exposure
- Be color and exposure corrected in Photoshop
- Have an interesting, creative and meaningful composition
- Cropped appropriately if needed in Photoshop
- Each page must contain the text of the poem and a photo that illustrates the text
- Cover must contain a photo, title, author name and illustrator name (you!)
- Book should have consistent orientation and page sizing
- Show strong craftsmanship, both digitally and with binding/assembly of book
- 2 copies made - one for LESA, one for you/school
Procedure:
- Choose a Shel Silverstein Poem that you would like to narrate with your photos. Please choose from this website: http://thewhynot100.blogspot.com/2014/05/46-short-and-sweet-shel-silverstein.html. If the website does not work for you, please use the pdf of the website below.
- Plan for your book. See handout below. Your plan must have:
- A sketch for each page. Include
- What you plan the photo to look like (a general idea - remember the requirements above!) Remember to think about orientation/proportions. They should all be consistent!
- The general location you think you will place your text
- What text will go on each page (remember your photo is illustrating the text, so make sure you divide the text up accordingly)
- A sketch for your front cover, including title, author name and illustrator name (you!)
- Size of your finished book (remember to keep in proportions of your photos!)
- What elements and/or principles you will be focusing on for each photo
- What exposure settings (depth of field,/slow shutter speed/fast shutter speed) you will focus on for each photo
- Any other important information you plan on including for your book

- Shoot your photos. Remember your requirements above (especially focusing on elements/principles and depth of field/shutter speed! You must shoot according to your plan and at least 5 different options for each page. Consider different angles, playing with your exposure settings, focusing on your composition, etc. ALL the things we've been talking about in class! Raw photos are due by Wednesday, 11/8. We will make a contact sheet in class.

- Edit your photos and create your covers in Photoshop for the following. We will review how to do these things in class.
