Advanced Art - semester 2 final
For your final this semester, I want you to tell me what you have learned based on one of the prompts in a way that demonstrates to me that you’ve learned in. This should be through a visual method, like an artwork, video, presentation, etc. It can include additional media (written, spoken, etc.). But it should be a creative representation of your learning (especially since some of our main foci in this class, and this semester, is the creative process, being creative and thinking about traditional (or cliché) ideas through new perspectives.)
Prompts (choose one to focus your final around):
1. What is your goal as an artist? What have you learned and achieved this semester that helps you get closer to that that goal?
2. What is your creative process? What have you done this semester that improved, deepened or expanded yours?
3. In many of your projects, I have asked you to deconstruct ideas (deconstructing is taking something down to its basic parts and analyzing it to rebuild it into something new/your new idea/your interpretation). So, for me, deconstruct what you’ve learned this semester for me. Consider aesthetic, technical, conceptual and process based learnings.
4. What do you still need to learn or what are your next steps as an artist? How do you know this based on what you have learned this semester?
5. What should a successful artwork be judged on? Consider a new rubric. How would you create it? What categories would you have? Consider aesthetic, technical, conceptual and process based categories. What would your work be scored at? How does this demonstrate what you learned?
6. What is art? How does your work meet that definition? How has your growth this semester helped you understand art and how your work is art in a deeper way?
Expectations
· Your response should be thoughtful and detailed
· Your response should provide multiple examples and relate to specific works to prove your point.
· Final product should be understandable without explanation
· Reflection is creative examination of prompt
· Reflection is a visual interpretation of the prompt and your aesthetic choices reflect your ideas.
· Your response should discusses and/or demonstrate significant learning from the semester. Consider aesthetic, technical, conceptual and process based learnings. Consider class objectives and other things you learned along the way.
· Reflective on your work and process
· Quality and craftsmanship of final presentation/work
· Remember, this is 20% of your grade, and therefore should be in depth and properly represent the amount of work you did this semester.
Format options
How can you vary your format to make it more interesting and reflective of your artwork and learning?
Consider addressing multiple media in your work. For example, if you want to do an artwork, and your artwork can’t say it all, could you include sound, or text in the artwork? Or you could use video to show content and creative imagery. See below for more ideas.
Please make sure your response to your chosen prompt is very clear in your format choice. If that means that you add an additional element (type in an artwork, written statement, etc) to expand your approach of the prompt, please do! I can only grade you on what you submit to me or what I can glean from your work, so make it clear!
Artwork
· How can an artwork explore the prompts above?
· What images can represent your ideas, experience?
· What skills can you demonstrate?
· How can you include type?
Presentation
· What presentation format can you consider (think beyond traditional PowerPoint). Prezi, Glogster, Pecha Kucha, etc…
· Is it presented live or something we explore individually later (like a website or social media aspect)
· Do people interact with it/your work in advance, part of or after of your final presentation?
Video
· What could we see? Is it you, your work, found or abstract imagery that reflects your ideas/artwork/experiences
Others?
· Combination of above?
· Web-based?
· Experiential?
· Performance? The choice is up to you! Just make sure it meets the expectations!
Consider integrating additional media into your visual work, including:
Written
· How can you vary your written format to make it more interesting and reflective of your artwork and/or learning?
· Does it have to be paragraph format? Consider poetry, rubrics (see prompt above), typography (type used as a visual element), etc.
· Is it meant to be read silently or performed?
· How does the rhythm of the words reflect your ideas and work?
Spoken
· Is it performed or recorded?
· Is it others’ voices, yours or both?
· How does the rhythm of the words reflect your ideas and work?
DUE DATE!
These will be due on the day of finals (Thursday, May 23).
On the day of finals, if your final is something that needs to be formally presented, you will have approximately 6-8 minutes to present. If your final is something that just needs to be turned in, you will have approximately 1-2 minutes to share what you did with the class. Everyone, at minimum will at least share what they did with the class on the day of Finals.
We will also critique your Concentration.
