For this project, you will be creating a monument through hand building in clay. You will consider your audience, location and who/what you want to create the monument for and why. You could consider create a new monument, revising an existing monument or replacing an existing monument.

Read the articles handed out in class and be ready to have a discussion about them in class on Tuesday, 11/26

- What is a monument? What is it's purpose?
- How can a monument's meaning change over time?
- Should monuments be removed if political or societal opinions change over time?
- What should be recognized and memorialized through a monument? Who decides?
- How does a person's understanding of history shift how they understand art?

- Use the elements and principles in an innovative, creative, dynamic way to express a theme/idea
- Communicate ideas through your work
- Consider how societal and historical context affects the meaning and perception of work
- Expand/develop technical skills in ceramics and sculpture

- Use the Elements and Principles to develop a stronger composition and meaning
- Meet the AP and KWHS Expectations of quality work (see rubric)
- During this process, keep thinking about the choices you make. Why are you making these choices? What is guiding you in developing your composition?
- Demonstrate strong technical skills in ceramics and sculpture
- Consider form, surface and location to aid in communicating your message
- Consider societal and historical context when making work
