- Stage 3 planning - N/A
- Stage 4 planning - Friday, 11/16
The concentration
Your concentration is a third of your AP portfolio, and will be what you are mainly working on second semester.
In the Concentration section of your portfolio, you will work to create a cohesive body of work around a specific theme. It will contain a submission of 12 images of your work (some may be details of works). “A concentration is a body of related works describing an in-depth exploration of a particular artistic concern. It should reflect a process of investigation of a specific visual idea” (From the AP Studio Art Course Description). This concentration section can be created in a 2-D (for 2-D Portfolios) or 3-D (for 3-D Portfolios) medium of your choice but all of the works should be related.
Your concentration will demonstrate a development of a visual and conceptual idea, from the beginning to the end of the creative process. It should reflect an in-depth investigation of your topic, viewing it from multiple perspectives. You will also be asked to reflect upon your creative process and choices when you submit the work to AP. You will have to answer the following prompts from AP:

Your proposal should be created as a sketchbook page(s) in your sketchbook). You should use words and images to address your ideas. Your proposal should be a visual experience, not just a bunch of words. It should include images, research and your own words and address the following:
- What will be the central idea of your concentration?
- Research it (new research, in relation to your idea for your concentration). I'm sure it has some real life connection that you can research. And if it doesn't - maybe you should rethink your idea! Site your sources!
- Why is your idea/concept important and/or interesting?
- How will your project be inspired by/relate to the art you record on your inspiration board, your current obsessions, the artists you watch and/or techniques your interested? If it won't, what will it be connected with?
- For Visual Artists: Sketch (detailed) 5 potential compositions for pieces as part of your concentration.
For photographers: Detailed Plan of 5 photographs - What will you photographs look like? What are your general thoughts on the composition of your images? Will you do straight photography or Photoshop your images? Will you use any effects? What aesthetic are you looking for? Where will you shoot? Who will be your models if you choose to have models? Sketch!!! - How will the pieces visually, technically and conceptually connect?
- How will you demonstrate the AP principles of design with your work?
- What help will you need to be able to do this? Any technical skills you may need to develop/strengthen?
