What is Graphic design?
Graphic Design is the art of communicating, messages, ideas and concepts about particular products or organizations through visual means. In this unit, we will use graphic design to design book covers and communicate the "essence" of the books through your visual choices on the covers.

Learning Goals
At the end of the project, you will be able to:
- Communicate ideas and messages from your product through your image, type, color and layout choices
- Use the Gestalt Principles of Design (similarity, continuity, closure, proximity, figure/ground) to communicate your ideas
- Use hierarchy to emphasize the most important information and for visual effect
- Use thoughtful typography choices to help communicate your message
- Research your client to learn what messages to convey
- Demonstrate a variety of brainstorming methods to create, expand and refine your ideas
- Create multiple thumbnail and refined sketches
Gestalt Principles of Design
The Gestalt Principles of Design are design principles devised from the psychology of how humans visually perceive things. Therefore, designers can use them in their work to create a more unified and effective design.
